[Musubibito] ~History experience trip with Nasu cultural evangelists and local millennium hot spring stories~
Under the theme of the traditional Yumi culture of Nasu Onsen "Kanoyu" and the historical background of the Nasuyumoto Onsen area, we will team up with the Yumi Preservation Society, Nasu Kogen Yumoto Guide Club, which is familiar with history, to take two days. Experience the charm of Nasu as a hot spring town.
"Musubibito" is a local evangelist who protects Nasu's history and culture and continues to transmit its splendor every day. From storytelling through storytelling to walk around the historic town and participation in Yumomi events, we provide valuable opportunities to "listen, walk, see and experience" the history and culture of Nasumachi for millennia.
What is Musubibito?
Considering urban areas and tourist centers around Japan as "Omoya" and beautiful areas that are not yet known as "Hanare", "Grand Mercure Nasu Highlands Resort & Spa" is a hotel located in an area that can be said to be "Hanare". "#Hanare Journey" is a travel style where you can enjoy a superb view of nature, traditions and culture rooted in the region, and interact with local people. As one of the ways to enjoy this #Hanare Journey, we propose the original experience program "Musubibito". In this program, people who are familiar with the region and continue to preserve tradition and culture are called "Musubibito" and play a role in connecting customers with their communities. In Grand Mercure in Japan, programs are being developed at hotels such as the source hunter in Beppu Bay and the salt craftsman in Awajishima.

Point of the program
A talk session to learn about Nasu Onsenkyo's hot water fir culture
Rumiko Saito, chairman of the Yumimi Preservation Society, will talk about the legend of seiseki, the history and culture of Nasu no Yumimi, and the song of Yumimi so that you can enjoy a walk in Nasu Town and experience the hot water fir.
Nasumachi's history, such as the story of the beginning of Nasu Yumi, who learned from Kusatsu Onsen at the end of the Taisho era and made his own "Nasu Yu Momi Uta" from the formation of Shikanoyu, which is described as Japan's oldest hot spring. You can learn it easily and interesting while recalling the historical picture of Nasumachi. In the corner of the hotel hot spring lounge with moderate lights, please immerse yourself in the world of the story carefully.
Take a walk from Nasu Onsen Shrine while listening to the history of Kanoyu and Nasu Yumoto areas
Walk along the route full of the history, legends and culture of Nasuyumoto Onsen, which runs from Nasu Onsen Shrine to Shikanoyu, and listen to the commentary of Nasu Kogen Yumoto Guide at 13 historical spots scattered along the road. Take a walk while listening.
As you go up the 129 steps, the hot spring shrine, which was built as the guardian deity of Nasu Onsenkyo, stands strictly. There are several historic spots on the precincts, such as the monument of Basho Matsuo and the sacred tree "Living", which is estimated to be 800 years old, and you will head to the main shrine while traveling around them.
When you pass through the hot spring shrine, you can see the scenery of Sainokawara from the hill in front of you. Sesshoseki is at the center, and the surrounding area still emits a small amount of volcanic gas, and you can feel the smell of sulfur. While looking at the historical buildings along the road, listening to the legends and stories related to each, stroll around the 1.5km route and aim for the final destination, Shikanoyu. While feeling the nature of Nasu, you can touch the history of millennia and notice the further charm of this area.
Yumi and bathing experience at the venerable Shikanoyu in Nasu Town
In the past, in Nasu, yumomi was performed by the landladies of a local inn. With the times, the number of leaders decreased and it was temporarily cut off, but in 2013, a local sightseeing volunteer volunteer formed the "Yumomi Preservation Society" and revived traditional techniques and inherited them carefully to this day . In this program, you will participate in this traditional hot water fir, which is held every year from May to November at Shikanoyu on the last Wednesday of every month.
Wear a undergarment and hold a hot water fir board, enter the bath with the members of the hot water fir preservation society led by Rumiko Saito at the signal of the bell, and sing a traditional hot water fir song, skillfully manipulate a special board with a rhythm and experience the technique of hot water fir. Clapping is sent from the bathers who visit, and the whole bath is wrapped in a warm sense of unity. After the experience, immerse yourself in the Kanoyu Onsen where you rubbed and enjoy a luxurious time to heal your mind and body.
After the Yumomi experience, take a commemorative photo with a undergarment and get an experience certificate with a cute picture drawn.
"Musubibito" Profile
Missionaries who convey the history and culture of Nasu
As a preacher of Nasu's history and culture, two groups that convey the history and legends of the Nasu Kogen Yumoto area and protect the hot spring and hot spring fir culture cooperate to continue spreading the appeal of Nasu Kogen to visitors. .
<Nasu Kogen Yumoto Guide Club>

This group was established by 14 volunteers who participated in the "Yumoto Local Study Group" held in April 2010. We work to preserve and manage tourism resources in the Nasu Kogen Yumoto area, and to spread history and culture. Members include not only local people, but also people who have emigrated to Nasu. I want more people to know the splendor of this area, and I work every day to make it enjoyable for visitors.
<Yumomi Preservation Society>

Yumi, which has been handed down mainly to the landladies in the Minshuku area for a long time, has been cut off due to aging. Therefore, people who wanted to protect this precious culture gathered and established a preservation society. In order to convey the history of Shikanoyu and Yumi to more people, we carry out activities to pass on stories and songs and spread their appeal.
